Professor Kenneth Grattan graduated from Queens University Belfast, followed by a PhD in Laser Physics. He became a Research Fellow at the Imperial College, London before joining City University, London, being appointed Professor of Measurement and Instrumentation and Head of the Department. His research interests include the use of fibre optic and optical systems in the measurement of a range of physical and chemical parameters for industrial applications. He is the author of over seven hundred publications and co-editor of a five-volume topical series on Optical Fibre Sensor Technology.
